To create a strain of Pointing Labradors that possess keen hunting instincts, excellent temperaments and high intelligence, resulting in great trainability and drive. These dogs are exceptional waterfowl and upland hunters as well as superb family dogs.
Over twelve years ago, I was fortunate to bring into the family a little black ball of fur named Maverick. Through the luck of genetics, Maverick was blessed with the pointing trait. At the time, I was not aware that there was a growing interest in the pointing retriever.
Maverick and I had the pleasure of being a professional upland and waterfowl
guides on a large private ranch in North Central Colorado. During the
three years we worked the ranch, Maverick, along with three Grand Master
Pointing Retrievers, was able to impress many fellow hunters as the ultimate
hunting dog.
Colorado is not known for its pheasant hunting. Seven years ago, Maverick and one other yellow were the only labs among 16 dogs hunting as a group of friends. All the other dogs were traditional pointers and flushers. Either German Shorthairs, English Pointers or Brittany Spaniels. As of opening day four years ago, all the dogs were labs. In an area where the dogs had to actually hunt for the birds, the labs really showed their stuff.
Today, we have selectively bred a strain of labs that are exceptional hunters as well as superb family dogs. The pointing trait is the keystone to our bloodline selection. All of our puppies have at least four Grand Master Pointing Retrievers in their four generation pedigree.
